Café Spotlight: The Bagel Mill, Petaluma

The Bagel Mill opened in 2019, with the stated goal to make East Coast bagels with a West Coast twist. They use only house milled whole wheat flour, organic ingredients, and leaven the bagels with a sourdough starter.

Owner Glenda Dougherty says, “I missed eating bagels after living in NY after 6 years, and missed the routine of eating a morning bagel and coffee at your regular spot. As a Sonoma County native, I also wanted to create a cafe that showcased all our awesome, local ingredients and had a focus on community.”

“I wanted to serve the best bagels and needed the best coffee to pair it with! I’ve always considered Ritual the best in the business, both in how thoughtfully they source and roast their coffee and in how meticulously they serve their coffee. They also were so willing to lend me their knowledge and expertise when it came to training staff, sourcing equipment, and setting up an efficient cafe.”
