Rainbow Falls Seasonal Espresso
Price range: $18.50 through $99.00
Introducing our new Seasonal Espresso, Rainbow Falls – a sweet, sparkling companion for all your springtime adventures. As snowpack becomes snowmelt, we flow into another beautiful season in California, full of wildflowers, waterfalls, and rainbows. With longer days and warmer weather, we’re excited to team up with the E.S.C.A.P.E. Club and help invest in a brighter future. The E.S.C.A.P.E. Club (Environmental Science, Conservation, And Photographic Excursions) is an outdoor education and extra-curricular group for young people in Richmond that helps foster a love of nature and inspire the next generation of conservationists. This espresso features a perfectly balanced trio of Latin American coffees. Fazenda Esperança from Brasil forms the foundation with a full-bodied chocolatey sweetness – the perfect canvas for our blend. Next, Nelson Ramirez from Honduras serves as a connecting component, with sugar cane and buttery toffee notes – a lighter, more complex representation of sweetness. Familia Montano from Colombia rounds out the mix with a vibrant acidity to bring everything into harmonious balance. There’s gold at the end of this rainbow!

Components:
1/3 Nelson Ramirez, Honduras
1/3 Familia Montano, Colombia
1/3 Esperança, Brasil
This espresso plays with three Latin American coffees that showcase an incredible amount of depth.
The foundation of Rainbow Falls is found in the amazing natural process coffees of Fazenda Esperança in Campos Altos, Brasil. Here, producer, veteran roaster, and exporter Bruno Souza grows exceptional catuaí and the traditional catuaí hybrids, Rubi and Topazio. Bruno knows that in the largest Arabica producing country in the world, he can’t compete for volume – so he aggressively looks toward quality to make him an outstanding producer among producers. In a breakaway from common practice, he selectively and hand-picks the coffee fruit that is found in this espresso at the peak of ripeness. After picking, the coffee – still in cherry – is left to rest and mature even further before being laid out on a combination of patios and raised beds to dry. The resulting coffee, when roasted for espresso, is incredibly full-bodied, full of ripe cherry and red fruit character and incredible heavy chocolatey sweetness – a perfect canvas for our seasonal espresso blend.
While in our Bay Dreamer seasonal espresso the catuaí from producer Nelson Ramirez served as the heavy base layer, in this espresso, it serves as a wonderful connecting component between the even deeper Esperança and our third acidity-driven component, Famlia Montano. This section of the espresso is not a carbon copy of the catuaí we just mentioned. Grown high on the slopes of the Santa Barbara mountain, Nelson’s catuaí matures more slowly than their counterparts of Brasils low serrado region. Still incredibly sweet, Nelson’s coffees contribute to this seasonal blend with sugar cane and buttery toffee notes – a lighter, more complex representation of sweetness that adds to the Esperança wonderfully. While sweetness and depth of flavor might dominate the previous two components, the third component, Familia Montano, was selected for its vibrant acidity to bring everything into harmonious balance. This offering of traditionally grown Caturra, Colombia, and Castillo variety coffees is grown high in the cordillera central of the Andes. The combination of variety, high elevation, and washed processing results in flavors that highlight citrus acidity with lemony flavors, malic acidity with fresh cherry and green apple flavors, and phosphoric acidity with zippy cola flavors. Combined with Esperança and Nelson Ramirez, this is an espresso that will linger heavy and sweet with just the right amount of sparkle to keep you wanting more.
