Over the last twenty years at Ritual we have seen incredible amounts of change in the coffee world. For each challenge faced by coffee producers – environmental crises, climate change, logistical difficulties, market instability – we have seen coffee producers persevere, adapt, and innovate, pushing the boundaries of what coffee can taste like and the impact it makes on the planet. From regenerative agriculture to organic practices to new disease-resistant varieties, coffee is changing for the better.
As coffee producing countries innovate and adapt, consuming countries often lag too far behind. For years, the majority of coffee purchased in the world has been underpriced and undervalued. At Ritual, we’ve sought to combat this in our sourcing practices – prioritizing prosperous long term sustainable relationships with exporters, producers, and importers, providing transparency in where and how our coffees are sourced, and why the value of the coffee is worth it to us – and hopefully is to you as well.
In a year when the coffee market has spiked to its highest point, upholding our values of paying above-market prices to producers we work with is more important than ever. As the market value of commodity coffee rises, so have costs in each coffee-growing region: everyday products to upkeep farms, farm equipment, transportation of coffee to the nearest mill, gas, etc – the price of everything is increasing.
Know that with our price increase, we are both keeping our promise to find you delicious coffees and renewing our commitments to the producers we’ve worked with for nearly two decades.
